The flower is distinguished by its very strong purple tessellation (checkerboard marking). Colchicum species contain poisonous alkaloids, such as colchicine. Flowering time: September-November. Distribution: This species is native from Turkey and Greece: South, West and Central Anatolia and adjacent Aegean islands, Cyclades.
