Informations supplémentaires:
Genesee Valley Lutheran Church in Genesee, Idaho is a Christian congregation serving the Genesee community. In 1878, a group of Norwegian homesteaders, settling in the fertile Idaho farmland between Genesee and Moscow, established a congregation they called Our Savior's Lutheran Church. They first met in members' homes, then built a log church, and later moved to a wooden frame building. The first settlers in the Genesee valley founded five separate Lutheran churches within a few miles of each other. German Lutherans established St. John's in Genesee. Swedish Lutherans built the Cordelia Lutheran Church. And two groups of Norwegian Lutherans, with slightly divergent views of scriptural truth, each constructed their own. The first Norwegian congregation formed Our Savior's Lutheran Church in 1878, and in 1884, the Norwegian Lutheran Lebanon Congregation was established. A group of Danish Lutherans formed a church as well, but records of that congregation have been lost. Later, as the population dwindled, the churches consolidated and closed. Services ended at Cordelia in 1918. In 1917, the two Norwegian churches merged to form the Genesee Valley Lutheran Church, and in 1960 merged again with St. John's to form the Genesee Lutheran Parish. The church was built in 1911 and dedicated in 1912 by the Norwegian Lutheran Lebanon Congregation.
