Two train guards at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (Frankfurt main station) Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof meaning Frankfurt main station is the central station for Frankfurt. It is the busiest train station in the whole of Germany. The station opened in 1888 and has a very old-school almost victorian feel to it similar to Kings Cross in London. Unlike some other german cities, Frankfurt main station was only partially bombed during the Second World War and it is perhaps for this reason that it retains old world charm in a way that some other major German train stations don’t. Frankfurt Am Main is the largest city in the German state of Hessen. It has a very big and thriving business district and is home to the European central bank. Indeed, it is the largest financial centre anywhere to be found in Europe and is characterised by its many skyscrapers which dominate the Frankfurt skyline. It is also a major transport hub for Germany.
