Vintage late 1960's Celtic Pottery (Newlyn, Cornwall) backstamp / sticker on the base of a "Medallion" coffee cup. Celtic pottery was started in Mousehole by Bill and Maggie Fisher in the mid 1960s. Maggie was a Canadian design graduate. Bill and Maggie eventually split up and Maggie continued running the pottery, relocating to Newlyn up the road. She then met Everidge Stevens who was running the Gwavas Pottery and who subsequently joined her. Ev had graduated from the Bournemouth and Poole College of Art. Maggie and Ev developed the Medallion design which was very popular. In the late seventies, the pottery stopped producing these ranges, changed its name to Sunset Pottery and switched to the production of more up-market cast ceramics - Art Deco designs and lustre figures. Production of the Celtic range was continued for a while by Poole Pottery.
