The Spitalkirche in Bayreuth is located in the center on Maximiliansstraße, a street market . It is Protestant-Lutheran and is administered by the city of Bayreuth as part of the Hospital Foundation. The former hospital, housing apartments and the city archives, is directly adjacent. The new building, which was made by the Bayreuth court architects Joseph Saint-Pierre and Rudolf Heinrich Richter, began in the spring of 1748 (laying of the foundation stone) and lasted until the summer of 1750 (consecration). The stucco was made by the Bayreuth Hofstuckateur Rudolf Albini . The ceiling painting was painted by the Dresden painter Johann Benjamin Müller . The last exterior renovation of the church took place in 2007.
