RFA Argus is the Royal Navy's medical and aircraft support ship. The principal role of RFA Argus is to serve as a Primary Casualty Receiving Ship (PCRS). She has a fully equipped 100-bed medical complex on board, which can be uniquely tailored to deliver cutting-edge treatment afloat. Built as the container ship MV Contender Bezant, in 1988 she was converted for the use in the Royal Navy as an Aviation Training Ship, and in 2001 was converted again to a Primary Casualty Reception Ship. RFA ARGUS still holds a specialist aviation training capability, and is fitted with its own air traffic control center. Besides a large casualty reception center and over 100 hospital beds, RFA ARGUS has a large flight deck which serves three hangars, which are equipped to service and maintain embarked aircraft.
