The Aqueduct of Segovia is the Roman civil engineering work most important in Spain, is one of the most significant monuments and best preserved of the left by the Romans on the Iberian Peninsula. Researchers believe that the aqueduct was built between the late first century and early second century, in time of the emperors Vespasian or Nerva. No one knows the origin of the city. The area was inhabited by Vaccaei and perhaps settlements of Roman troops for controlling them. In total it has 162 arches. There are 75 single arches, after 44 arcades with double order. It is built with granite blocks placed without mortar between them. On the three tallest arches had, in Roman times, one console with bronze letters which appeared the date and the name of the builder.
