The 1968 Alfa Romeo T33/2, also known as the 'Daytona, ' was a significant revision of the previous T33 model following a lackluster development year. It featured new aerodynamically efficient bodywork in short and long tail configurations, with the short tail cars available as coupes or spyders. These updates enhanced performance, including larger side intakes for better airflow to the engine and brakes. The car retained its 270 bhp, 2-liter aluminum V8 engine to avoid extensive engine development costs, although a 3-liter version was anticipated. Debuting at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January 1968, Alfa Romeo fielded five T33/2s that ultimately finished 5th, 6th, and 7th against competition from Porsche 907s. The team then prepared for other races, including the Targa Florio, where they achieved a class victory. The season saw mixed results, but Alfa secured its first overall win at Mugello, followed by another at Imola. At Le Mans, the cars showcased long-tail bodywork aimed at achieving higher speeds, resulting in four 6th overall finishes while winning the 2-liter class. Overall, the T33/2 demonstrated improved competitiveness throughout the season.
