Jan. 03, 2012 - Encore! after 90 years Dame Marie Rambert still hungers for ballet: As the Ballet Rambert prepares to celebrate it's 52nd Birthday since it was founded, Dame Marie Rambert, D.B.E. Founder Director of the group also celebrates a very special occasion for she is 90 years old on February 20th. No longer at the age where she can sustain the punishment to the body in strengthening and stretching the muscles and limbs until total command can be achieved over a body, she still manages to do a few exercises on her private warm up barre, which for a woman of 90 is just as astonishing. At the barre you can see the courage, composure and dedication of a woman that once graced the floors and stages in Ballet, with that now vast knowledge of Repertoire being passed on to younger talents entering the very masterful Rambert Company. Even at teh very dignified age of 90, Dame Marie refuses to accept that even she has learned everything there is to know for the bodies of todays Ballet dancers are developing to even greater extents and with them a whole new wealth of movement has opened up giving the Choreographer a new dimension in which to work in. Dame Marie Rambert has always risen to an occasion no matter how small, picture here showing glimpses of that old magic that once graced ballet in here younger days.
