13 Return from Varennes.-Arrivée de Louis XVI to Paris on June 25, 1791. Reasoned classification: The postcard reproduces the engraving of Pierre-Gabriel Berthault (1737-1831) from the drawing of Jean-Louis Prieur (1759-1795) that represents the return to Paris of Louis XVI from Varennes. The Royal Berlina appears escorted by the National Guard at the height of the "Barrière Du Roue", located in the Plaza Des Ternes (Paris). On the night of June 21, 1971, Louis XVI and his family undertook the flight of Paris borderly. They were recognized and arrested in the small municipality of Varennes, fifty kilometers from their destination, Montmédy (current border with Belgium). The royal delegation returned to Paris escorted by armed citizens and by the National Guard. Louis XVI will be accused by the Assembly for betrayal, convicted of death and executed in the Guillotine on January 21, 1793. The engraving belongs to the collection of "historical paintings of the French Revolution." The series narrates through the stamp the main events of the French Revolution since the transformation of the general states into the National Assembly on June 20, 1789. This editorial project began in 1791 and some of the most prominent names of The arts and letters of the moment. The obverse presents a numbered photo (13) with information related to the title of the painting and to the historical date it represents. At the end of this information the initials appear "ll". This brand was the one used by the photographic company Léon et Lévy, founded in 1864 and specialized in stereoscopic and postal illustrated views. Lévy became the second most important postcards editor in France, only surpassed by the Neurdein brothers. The Émile Crété printer acquired these two companies and merged them under the name of Lévy et Neurdein Réunis around 1920. The "LL" brand continued to be used in this new stage.
