Informations supplémentaires:
The Marina dell'Orso di Poltu Quatu in the Costa Smeralda was founded in 1987 to accommodate visiting yachts to this popular area of Northern Sardinia. It is located between the Liscia di Vacca bay and Baja Sardinia, opposite the island of Caprera and the islet of the Cappuccini. It is very sheltered and is a convenient base from which to enjoy sailing in the La Maddalena Archipelago. The design of this recent development was based on the traditional Sardinian fishing village. Its name ‘Poltu Quatu’ is taken from the Gallura dialect and means ‘hidden harbour’ This area was named the ‘Costa Smeralda’ in 1959 by the Prince Aga Khan. He became convinced that his investment from the previous year was worthwhile and set about transforming Gallura into a tourist attraction. It has the reputation as an exclusive playground for the rich and famous. Each summer Italian celebrities and the wealthy flock to this area. The natural areas on the Sardinian coast are protected by the Coastal Conservation Agency.
