A colour-tinted picture postcard 200943 published by Leach Stationer, St Annes, and posted in St Annes 26th August 1910. St Annes Pier opened in 1885, being intended as a sedate promenading venue in contrast to the popular amusements and entertainments of the piers in nearby Blackpool. The Tudor-style entrance (still seen today) was built in 1899. Note the Moorish-style pavilion (1904) and Floral Hall (1910) at the pier's seaward extremity. A the very end of the pier stood a landing jetty for pleasure steamers. The ruins of the landing jetty still survive, now separated from the rest of the pier after fires, destroying the Moorish Pavilion in 1974 and the Floral Hall in 1982, reduced the pier's length by 180 m. Changes made to the Ribble Estuary channels to improve access to Preston Docks ended steamer services from St Annes Pier long ago.
