Arches National Park is studded with the deformities of earth's geologic history. Millions of years of gradual weathering by wind, sand, and water has left a fantastic collection of arches, goblins, dramatic canyons, pour-offs, and tablelands, or mesas. The people who rediscovered this landscape, after it's abandonment by the early Anasizi and Fremont Indians, created names that fit the odd, grotesque, and graceful features found in the four corners region. Names like Goblin Valley, the Maze, Dark Canyon, Moon House, and Island in the Sky.
