Pesce, born in La Spezia in 1909, studied Architecture at the University of Venice and participated in the Group N, a collective that in the years '60 dealt with art modeled on the Bauhaus. Pesce’s work is present in collections of important museums of the world such as Moma in New York and San Francisco, Vitra Museum in Germany, Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Centre Pompidou in Paris. PORTARITRATTI CHAIR (2017) is on display in Piazza Matteotti. According to Gaetano Pesce, design must be a tool of complaint that intervenes on society. Portaritratti chair is one of the works dealing with the theme of equality and the enhancement of differences. The installation is a tribute to diversity, one of the cornerstones of Pesce’s research, for which uniqueness, "error" is a source of enrichment. A challenge and a revolt against standardization and globalization because "Equals don’t communicate, but different people do".
