PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE USE / Friday, 13 April 2018 The 30th Edinburgh International Science Festival, powered by EDF Energy, comes to a close this Sunday, 15 April, having presented over 270 events for people of all ages across two weeks in and around Edinburgh, inspired by the theme of Life, the Universe and Everything. Edinburgh Mini Maker Faire is the traditional grand finale of Edinburgh International Science Festival and takes place on the last day of the Festival at Summerhall. Possibly the Greatest Show (and Tell) in Scotland, the event gathers together fascinating, curious people who enjoy making things and who love sharing what they do. From engineers to artists, scientists to crafters, the Faire is a chance for makers to show off their hobbies, experiments and projects; and for visitors to discover new ways to make their own ideas a reality. Last year’s Mini Maker Faire included soapbox talks from local makers such as MAKLab and Edinburgh Hacklab, stalls from Edinburgh Remakery and Edinburgh Tool Library. This year’s sixth Edinburgh Mini Maker Faire will feature everything from experimental electronic instruments and UK’s first ever hyperloop prototype to programmable robots and an interactive map of Scotland. Johnathan Elders’ The Laser Garden, an innovative, technology-influenced art project, explores the idea of evolution through technology, using a combination of lasers and smoke to create ethereal, wearable art. Also part of Mini Maker Faire this year, The Laser Garden will be available to experience in the basement of Summerhall this Sunday!
