A Chinese farmer built a homemade elevator to help his paralyzed wife go upstairs and downstairs at home. Zhang Guilin, now 25 years old in 2016, fell in an accident and suffered underpart paralysis just before receiving the letter for her college admission in 2006 in Luoyang, central China's Henan province. She accidentally met Ma Xiaopeng, her future husband, on the Internet. Ma, now 31, who is also a native in Luoyang, was then a migrant worker in another city. They fell in love and got married soon. Later, Zhang firmly got pregnant and delivered a girl in August 2013 despite of warning from doctors that she might get uraemia if she wanted the baby. For living a better life, Zhang's husband Ma Xiaopeng spent 100, 000 yuan (US15, 450) at the end of 2015 building a second floor on their house which enables Zhang to enjoy more sunshine. To help Zhang go downstairs and upstairs easily, Ma also started to build a homemade elevator in Februayr 2016 and finally spent one month completing the six-meter-tall purely handmade lift with steel tubes, iron sheets and other items he could find and buy.
