Nokia Corp. said Tuesday (8 April 2014) that it has received regulatory approval from China for the €5.4 billion ($7.4 billion) sale of its handset business to Microsoft Corp. The deal, struck in September, has now received approvals from the European Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice and other jurisdictions, and is expected to close in April. Receiving a green light from Chinese regulators was considered one of the key final steps in closing a transaction designed to reshape the Finnish companys business and give a boost to the U.S. software giant. In a statement issued Tuesday morning, Nokia said the entire regulatory approval process involved a thorough review of the companys licensing practices. Shares of Nokia recently traded up 2.7% following the news.
