--File--Wang Meng, a 26-year-old four-time Olympic gold medalist in speed skating, is pictured at a training center in Qingdao, east Chinas Shandong province, 9 July 2011. Wang Meng, a 26-year-old four-time Olympic gold medalist in speed skating, apparently broke an evening curfew after a boisterous dinner in town with her parents and five of her national team-mates. Upon returning to camp, Ms Wang, who was Chinas female athlete-of-the-year in 2010, was confronted by the coach of the national team and the two had a quarrel. Chinese state media reported that Ms Wang had been drinking. Some newspapers reported that the coach, Wang Chunlu, had shoved her star athlete to the ground and that she had cut her hand on some broken glass. The official Chinese media, however, insisted that Ms Wang had been injured after returning to her room and punching a glass wall. One of her other team-mates defended her by swinging a fist at the coach. Ms Wang was then taken to hospital where she had to have dozens of stitches in an operation lasting around four hours.
