Informations supplémentaires:
Beautiful Baroque palace, located in Via della Mostra in Bolzano | Bozen, with very good preserved rococo frescoes by Karl Henrici, one of the best painter of the city. Palazzo Menz, opposite Palazzo Campofranco, was built in 1670 and was bought in 1753 by the Menz, prestigious exponents of the Bolzano mercantile patriciate. The palace, extensively renovated, on the main floor preserves the ballroom with rococo-style frescoes of a lukewarm inspiration by Karl Henrici. The festive representation on the piano nobile presents, in the vault, the Triumph of Love among the gods of Olympus (1776), while on the walls a Masked Party (1783-1784) is depicted set in a park, according to a widespread figurative tradition in the Veneto area. Henrici was considered the best painter of Bolzano. The Menz family was one of the richest in Bolzano. Textile traders were among the first to negotiate with the East. For the marriage of Georg Paul Menz with Klara Amort in 1776 the party room was decorated with rich frescoes by Karl Henrici. The works were influenced by the artist's stay in Venice and in particular by the Tiepolo school. The ceiling shows the triumph of love and the walls are a typical example of Baroque. You can admire gardens with groups of people, richly dressed, dancing, making music or flirting. In the next room there are chinoiseries, at the time very fashionable like everything that was exotic. Frescoes, also by Henrici, depict Chinese, Indians, Indians, with gardens, seascapes, exotic vegetation and fantastic fauna. Typical of this painter's art, from Silesia, are the many trompe-d'oeil effects. The room decorated with frescoes commissioned by Georg Paul Menz on the first floor is Palazzo Menz, now a bank, can be visited on request.
