This Jaguar car was driven by the villain Zao in the film Die Another Day, releadsed by MGM Studios and Eon Productions in November 2002. This was the 20th film in the Bond series. In it Bond was once more behind the wheel of hios beloved Aston Martin as he had been in the classic 1960s film Goldfinger. This car was in fact the villain car belonging to the evil Zao. The production XKR boasts a 4.2 litre engine complete with supercharger. Eight special XJRs were built for the film with only cosmetic modifications but the others were built on shortened Ford Explorer 4 x 4 chassis. Four wheel drive was an essential requirement for the dramatic car chase on sheet ice which was an action highltght of the film. The film car is equipped with a formidable arsenal of weapons including a Gatling machine gun mounted behind the seat, also missiles which fire through the front grill rocket launchers in the Doors and mortar bombs in the boot. All cars were modiofied in Pinewood Studios and were finished in the same mettalic green used in the Jaguar racing Formula one Grand Prix cars. This car is now owned by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage trust Four-wheel drive was essential for filming on ice, so both cars had the whole powertrain removed and replaced with automatic, all-wheel-drive transmissions from Ford. The engines were replaced with 325bhp 5-litre V8s, also from Ford. A hydraulic handbrake was added to enable the stunt drivers to lock the rear wheels for sharp turns. The Jaguars – of which four were provided – were given a custom body kit. One was fitted out with a nitrousoxide cannon inside – essentially a car-length steel tube that slots over a gas-powered launcher – for the final scene, which sees it soar into the arctic ice.
