The Waverley Train Station (and the bridge right next to it) are located right in the heart of the city of Edinburgh. The station is at a lower level than the road, and is fairly large, catering to all the tourists who arrive in the city from London and other locations in the country. The size of the station below ground level along with the train tracks and trains on them can be seen in this photo, taken from the heights of the Edinburgh Castle. Right next to the train station is the large Balmoral Hotel. The photo shows a view of a number of buildings that make up this part of Edinburgh, and also includes a view of some historic landmarks in the distance such as the National Monument and Nelsons Monument on Calton Hill in Edinburgh. The Balmoral Hotel was originally called the North British Hotel, constructed in the year 1902. After many years of operation, the hotel was sold to the Forte Group in 1983 by British Rail, and was then closed in 1988 for an year for restoration and re-modeling, and was then re-opened as the Balmoral Hotel. The hotel enjoys a strategic location in central Edinburgh.
