The new Marine Parade Bridge (Marine Way Bridge) is the next important step in the regeneration of the Southport Seafront. The Bridge will provide an important transport link, will help to better integrate the Town and the Seafront and will provide a catalyst for future investment and regeneration. The total cost of the project is estimated at £4.6million to be funded from the Local Transport Plan, North West Development Agency and Sefton Council. The programme is for construction to commence in the Autumn and be completed during the Spring of 2004. The design of the Scheme has taken into account feedback from numerous consultation exercises, which have taken place over the years and will build upon the tradition of bold modern municipal projects. These include the highly acclaimed Seawall works and the Pier Restoration both have recently been completed. The Eastbank Street scheme, £200, 000 SRB, is to improve tourist routes into the town and beyond to the promenade. This will see investment to improve the infrastructure of Southport for the benefit of residents and tourists alike. 2003 saw the building of the 'Dunes' Leisure Centre & Swimming Pool on the Esplanade. It's a state-of-the-art multi-million pound leisure centre featuring a four court sports hall, a multi-activity studio, a 25 metre swimming pool, a toddler/learner pool, children's activities, and a reflexions fitness suite.
