The Poughkeepsie Bridge is a steel truss cantilever bridge completed in 1889, originally as a double-track railroad bridge. It spans New York’s Hudson River at the towns of Poughkeepsie and Highland. The bridge is 6, 768 feet in total length, with a height of 212 feet. The bridge was first listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and became a National Recreation Trail in 2009. It has been converted to a pedestrian walkway with breathtaking views of the Hudson River and surrounding valley. Now known as the Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park, it is part of the Hudson Valley Rail Trail Network, connecting to more than 30 miles of scenic trail systems, including the Dutchess Rail Trail and the Hudson Valley Rail Trail. There is a 4-5-mile loop trail connecting the Walkway to the nearby Mid-Hudson Bridge. Open 7 a.m. to dusk; ADA-compliant.
