An ancient Balinese village that preserves its hundreds of years old laws and traditions Situated in Karangasem regency, Bali, the traditional village of Teganan Pegeringsingan is known as a "Bali Aga" (ancient Bali) village that conduct every aspects of their social and spiritual activities according to hundreds of years old traditions. Despite having been endorsed by the government to be developed as a tourist destination, people of the village disagree. They rejected the construction of hotels and tourism facilities in the area, wrote Wanita Subadra Abioso and Himasari Hanan (Department of Architecture, Bandung Institute of Technology) in their paper published in Aug 2014 on Research Gate. A little bit different than other villages in Bali, this village holds a non-caste social system where every member of the community has equal social status and live communally, with every farmland and forest is owned by the village. "The village's board acts as a guard of the community life and plays a significant role in devising the spatial layout of physical environment of the village. They stand as a reference for all ritual activities and social standing of the inhabitants, " the researcher duo wrote.
