Firefighters look on as a tower ladder from East Hampton pours water onto the remains of the biuilding as at 1:43 a.m. on the morning of Thursday, April 17th, 2014 the Amagansett Fire Department was activated for a report of a structure fire at 132 Miankoma Lane. First ariving units found a large house that had been under construction completely involved with fire. Amagansett Chief Dwane Denton immediately called for mutual aid from the East Hampton and Springs fire departments, as well as for the Rapid Intervention Team from Sag Harbor. The fire, which appeared to have been burining for some time, was attacked using a "surround-and-drown" approach using East Hampton's tower ladder, deck guns and other large-diameter hose lines ias the building had collapsed shortly after the arrival of the first units. While battling the fire, embers from it landed in the roof of a residence at 123 Miankoma Lane and also ignited a fire in the roof of that home, which firefighters were able to quickly extinguish. Units were on scene soaking down hot spots until approximately 6:00 a.m. and the East Hampton Town Fire Marshal's office was also on scene to investigate the fire's cause and origin.
