A young Chinese "Iron Man" enthusiast spent about half a year making his own armor and has just completed the work over the weekend. Cheng Chen, a 27-year-old employee of a large state-owned enterprise in Xuzhou, east China's Jiangsu province, had the idea of making the armor as his younger brother wanted to own one after they watched the last "Iron Man" movie at a local cinema. Cheng spent months collecting online data related to the Mark armors and finally decided to make one based on the Mark VI prototype. To cut the cost, Cheng used EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate), a kind of plastics, instead of metal. He bought about 20 square meters of such material at 5 yuan (US$0.8) per square meter from online shops on Taobao.com, the popular marketplace of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group. The plastic boards were cut and pasted into 13 parts, including helmet, mask, chest and limb protectors. Then Cheng applied metallic paint on each part for three times to make them look more real. After hard work during leisure time for the past two months, Cheng fiinished the 2-meter-tall plastic armor which weighs about 4kg and costs only 500 yuan.
