The Union of Firefighters, federated in CSIT Professional Union and majority organization in the Fire Department of the Community of Madrid, has demonstrated this Tuesday, May 9, in protest against the publication of a new delay in the opposition process. The demonstration began at 6:30 p.m. on Los Madrazo street, in front of the General Directorate of Public Function, and ended at Puerta del Sol. Last Friday, April 21, the Opposition Court of 125 new firefighters published its calculation on the deadlines that are planned for the completion of the process and, "surprisingly, the intention is that it last more than a year, something that has been a very hard blow for all aspiring firefighters in the Community of Madrid", they have indicated "We are not going to allow what we consider a lack of respect both to the applicants, as well as to the Fire Department itself and to the citizens. We do not understand how an opposition process, which should last for months, can be extended by the Administration itself for more than three years”, they stress. «This situation is even more serious, if we take into account that the driving test has been eliminated, supposedly the exercise that caused the most delay in all opposition processes. Initially, the Public Function decided that the members of the Court would be the same in more than 80%, including the president, which would facilitate the streamlining of the process. However, the reality is that the process will last the same or longer than previous processes. The first meeting of the Court took place on April 17, and the intention is to delay the first theoretical test until the first half of July, almost three months later, "which seems nonsense to us." This accumulation of delays would delay the process until the end of May 2024, so they could not start their training until the end of the year, in the best of cases, "not being able to participate in the forest fire campaign."
