Madrid, Spain, December 2018: A night view shows people looking at an art exhibition - Invisible, by spanish artist Jaume Plensa, at Cristal Palace - Palacio de Cristal, a former glass house transformed into an exhibition center, Retiro Park - Parque del Retiro, Madrid (Spain). The Crystal Palace is one of the two exhibition venues of the Reina Sofía Museum in the Retiro Park in Madrid. Built by Ricardo Velázquez Bosco in 1887, this space was originally conceived as a greenhouse for the Flora Exhibition of the Philippine Islands, a Spanish colony at the time. The use of cast iron columns and large glass surfaces allows an unusual, monumental and diaphanous plant at the same time. Credit Awarded with the Velázquez Prize for Visual Arts in 2013, among others, Jaume Plensa (Barcelona, 1955) is recognized worldwide for his public work in cities such as Chicago, London, Montreal, Nice, Tokyo, Toronto or Vancouver. Although he is known as a sculptor, the creative process of this artist, one of the Catalans with the greatest international projection, has gone through multiple disciplines: engraving, drawing, video, sound or set design. Now presents the work Invisibles made specifically for the Crystal Palace. The project is a sculptural group formed by steel meshes that draw in the space the unfinished faces of large-format figures suspended in the air, traversed by light and stopped in time.
