Informations supplémentaires:
Palazzo Ducale, residence of the lords of Mantua, is a monumental complex located between Piazza Sordello and the shore of Lake Inferiore. The "palace" in Mantua is among the largest in the world, covering an area of approximately 34, 000 m2. It was built between the 13th and 17th centuries and therefore represents, for its stylistic discontinuity, but also for its overall harmony, an authentic architectural peculiarity. The greatest artists of each period contributed to the creation: Bartolino da Novara, Antonio Pisano (il Pisanello), Andrea Mantegna and Giulio Romano. Next to Fancelli's Domus Nova is the Garden of the Pavilion. Vincenzo I had it built in 1603 by the botanist friar Zenobbio Bocchi, already the creator of the Boboli Gardens in Florence. The result is a square botanical garden that follows the "Italian" geometric scheme. It is also called the Garden of the Simples because medicinal or "simple" plants were grown there.
