Bedri Rahmi Cove named after the artist BEDRI RAHMI EYUBOGLU: 1911, Giresun - 1975, Istanbul. Turkish painter, ceramic artist and poet. Famous for his work woven with traditional Turkish motifs. He realized the 272 m2 mosaic panel for the World Exposition in Brussels in 1958 and the 50 m2 panel for the NATO Building in Paris in 1959 (this piece also is in Brussels today). The artist won the Golden Medal at the Saõ Paulo Biennial. Throughout his life, Bedri Rahmi was interested in Anatolian folk art and aimed to reflect Anatolian sensitivity by the technical resources of Western painting. The beginning of this effort is evident in pictures like Nude with Watermelon (1932), Interior (1937) and Nereids (1937). His perspective resembles those of Matisse and Dufy, rather than Lhote whose studio he had studied in for a year when in Paris. Bedri Rahmi employed miscellaneous elements of Anatolian culture and produced work in diverse media such as oil color, engraving, mosaic and ceramic. The colors of his palette are as vivid as examples of folk art he takes after. Bedri Rahmi has a major place in the effort to sustain folk art by modern techniques and arrive at a novel Turkish painting. He raised several arists in his studio in the Academy of Fine Arts in Isttanbul, which he directed for years. The artsist is also interested in folk poetry and is renown for his verses besides his paintings. BLUE CRUISE: a.k.a. Blue Voyage (Mavi Yolculuk) is the term used for recreational boating tours along Turkey's spectacular southwestern coasts. A full Blue Cruise is generally admitted to start in Didim, or even Kusadasi, although the tours are often launched with departure in Bodrum, and it comes to an end with Antalya as the final port of destination. In general parlance, the term may also be used to refer to shorter tours as well, as long as they take place along southwestern Turkey's shores.
