Informations supplémentaires:
The mostly empty reservoir of the Lac d'Emosson, in Valais, Switzerland, reveals the so-called Barberine Dam, built in 1925 and replaced by the current, larger dam which was built between 1969 and 1973. The Barberine dam is only rarely visible because it is typically submerged by the waters of the reservoir. The current Emosson dam is part of a Swiss-French hydroelectric power scheme in which water from the Emosson reservoir is released to hydroelectric plants in France and Switzerland to produce electricity as required. An expansion of a reservoir adjacent to and above the Lac d'Emosson (the Lac du Vieux Emosson) will see the Lac d'Emosson serve as the lower reservoir of the Nant de Drance pumped storage scheme to generate electricity on demand, with testing due to take place from 2018 to 2020.
