The Hermitage in Bayreuth is a historic park dating back to 1715 with water features and buildings, which is one of the city's attractions. There are also the so-called Old Castle , the New Castle ( Orangerie with the Sun Temple) and other smaller buildings. The Hermitage is officially also a district of the independent city of Bayreuth. In the years 1749-1753, the New Palace was built west of the previous castle (not to be confused with the built in the city center from 1753 New Castle ). It consists of two curved wings, which are separated from the middle part. This is wearing a gold-plated quadriga , which is guided by a torch-bearing Apollo as a symbol of the sun. Therefore, the building is usually referred to as the sun temple. The side wings are today the Orangerie of the Hermitage. At the same time, surrounded by arcades (so-called Treillagen ), the large upper pool (Upper Grotto) was formed with several groups of figures. The whole ensemble embodied the Four Elements .
