'Welcome to Grand Teton national Park' information sign, at the south boundary of the Park on Highway 191/26/89. four miles north of Jackson. The sign includes information on wildlife killed by vehicles in 2010 (bison 17; moose 5; bears 5; pronghorn 6; elk 48; coyote 7; deer 40; wolves 2). Another section is entitled 'Be Bear Aware'. 'Allowing a bear to obtain human food results in aggressive behavior. Aggressive bears are a threat to human safety and must be removed. You will be fined if you leave food, coolers, garbage, or any other odorous material unattended for ANY length of time. Use bear boxes or your hard sided vehicles to stop these items. All garbage must be deposited in bear-proof receptacles.' A further section is entitled: 'Take the Trail Less Traveled. Grand Teton National Park has over 200 miles of hiking trails. Go to any visitor centre for hiking, suggestions, trail conditions and weather forecasts. Mountain weather can change rapidly so be prepared with sturdy shoes, water and extra layers. There is a trail for every level of hiker; from short strolls to multi-day backpacking expeditions. Be prepared to encounter wildlife anywhere in the park. For your safety and that of the animals, stay 100 yards from bears and 25 yards from all other animals.' The sign includes a map of the park and an emergency phone number and the location of payphone in the area.
