After six hours of driving through wet, boggy clay roads, rain following us forward, we punched through the front with blue sky visible before us. We did another few kilometres but exhausted, I pulled off the road. We both leapt for joy at finally making it through these appalling conditions. The truck was covered from roof to wheels in clumps of red mud. But it was only temporary, the front was fast moving ahead of us and we could see the rain coming behind. As the sun began to set, I quickly grabbed tripod and camera and tore of into the field to make a photo, It started to spit. I composed and took one frame, returned to the car slightly lighter in step, the activity relieving the built up tension. Back on the road, 10 minutes dirt turned into half an hours worth of tarmac all the way to Bourke, where a dry room with a large bed and warm meal was ever so appreciated.
