Canon battery at Christiansø. Bornholm, Denmark. Christiansø is a tiny (22 hectare) island a couple of hours sailing out of Gudhjem. In 1684 king Christian V a seafort on the island, which is still owned by the Ministry of Defense. No cars are allowed on the island, which have about 100 inhabitants, living in the old romantic stone houses, built by king Christian for his soldiers. The island functioned as a military installation until 1855. Some 60 - 80.000 turists visits the island per year. T Everything on the island - from buildings to even the vegetation is listed. The canon battery on the photo is Juuls Battery from 1684. The houses in the background was the soldiers quarters, now rented by the islanders.
