Conestoga Wagons lined up in downtown of Sun Valley, Idaho, USA. Wagon builders in the Conestoga Valley of Pennsylvania designed it in mid-18th century, hence the name. Conestoga Wagon is one of the most distinctively American vehicles. With its tall white canvas top, it resembled a sailing ship from a distance, which earned it the name "prairie schooner". During the American Revolution, Conestoga wagons carried supplies for the Continental Army. It first came to general use on the overland routes just after the American Revolution. It was the freight carrier of frontier days.
