Annual 33rd MayDay Parade and Festival for 2007. Produced and created by In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre. The parade theme this year is about water. Somos Agua we are the water. Water is essential for all life, flowing through each of the living beings of Earth, in an immense and constant journey around the planet. Water connects us to all life. A grand procession of floats and puppets illustrating the beginnings, use and misuse of water march joyfully down the streets of Minneapolis towards Powderhorn Park. The first part of the parade is a giant walking street theatre depicting an ad campaign for a fictional water bottle company called H2NO - complete with cheerleaders, marching band and a plastic water bottle goddess - to promote the "need" for water sold in plastic bottles. The second part imagines water kept in a lock-up tower defended against thirsty people by a giant monster and armed guards. this is followed by the public join-in section: a mosaic of Twin Cities groups. The parade proceeds to Powderhorn Park to kick-off the MayDay Ceremony honoring the return of spring and share the healing properties of water, culminating in the Tree of Life Ceremony where a Flotilla of boats paddles the Sun across the lake to where the Tree of Life sleeps, waiting to be reawakened.
