David Degge at his home in Glyn Ceiriog near Llangollen and is hoping that a pack of Doberman dogs may hold the clue to solving his rare medical condition. * The 53-year-old former accountant has narcolepsy and can doze off unexpectedly up to two dozen times a day and he also suffers from the associated condition of cataplexy - a muscular limpness which causes its victims to collapse fully conscious without warning. Degge is believed to be the first person in Britain to take part in tests being carried out at Stanford University Medical Centre in California, where studies have revealed that narcolepsy sufferers are missing a protein called orexin. Research, carried out on narcolepsy-prone Doberman Pinschers, has so far shown that they respond to orexin replacement treatment.
