Derby. UK. 6th June 2017 credit Shaun Fellows / Alamy News A vibrant graffiti mural is being created in the heart of Derby over the next week to celebrate the city’s exciting events calendar. The commission has been beautifully crafted by modern mural artist Peter Barber and will appear on the external wall of the vacant BHS unit at intu Derby which faces St Peter Street. The installation arrives as a gift from intu Derby to the local community, brightening up St Peters Street with an energetic artwork for people to enjoy. Combating the myth that nothing ever happens in the town, the graffiti-style wall showcases a selection of fabulous Derby events including Elton’s John’s Concert at The 3aaa County Ground, the RHS Flower Show at Chatsworth House and the Women’s Cricket World Cup which is taking place across June and July at Derbyshire County Cricket Club. Peter Barber’s latest creation comes off the back of his project with Kew Gardens where he hand painted a 200m hoarding illustrating cultural landmarks, characters and events. Carly Salisbury, marketing manager at intu Derby comments: “We, as a centre, are proud of our city and are excited to see Peter’s creation come to life, showcasing a whole host of wonderful things that have happened or will be happening in our city over the next 12 months. He’s set to transform the space and we can’t wait to see the finished outcome!”
