Captioned: "Men of the 4.2 mortar crew, 31st Heavy Mortar Company, 7th Infantry Regiment, fire at enemy position, west of Chorwon, Korea." The 7th Infantry is a regiment in the United States Army. In its 200 year history it has participated in 12 wars, been awarded 76 campaign streamers, and 14 unit decorations. The regiment has served in more campaigns than any other infantry unit in the U.S. Army. Nicknamed the "Cottonbalers" from an incident that occurred during the Battle of New Orleans. During the Korean War Cheorwon County changed hands several times during the UN invasion of North Korea and the Chinese invasion of South Korea, by 1951 the frontlines had stabilized, cutting across Cheorwon County and the area became part of the Iron Triangle battlefield. Following the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement, the Korean Demilitarized Zone cut Cheorwon County in two, creating Cheorwon County in South Korea and Chorwon County in North Korea.
