Sunday 20th May 2012, Witton Country Park, Blackburn England. A pony is put through its paces in an obstacle course at the Countryside Experience Day staged by the Royal Lancashire Agricultural Society (RLAS). The pony shown is one of many which have been rescued by 'Penny Farm World Horse Welfare'. World Horse Welfare is a UK based charity focussing on horse welfare at home and overseas. The ponies on display at the show here have all been rescued and rehomed by the charity at its local centre at Penny Farm, near Blackpool. The Royal Lancashire Agricultural society was formed in 1767 and their annual county show is believed to be the oldest of its kind. The society was forced to abandon its shows in 2008 and 2009 due to very bad weather causing the showground to become waterlogged. The £ 0.5 million losses incurred in these successive bad years led to the 2011 and 2011 shows not taking place. This2012 Countryside Experience event in Blackburn is a smaller scale event than the full blown County show and many people will be hoping its success leads to an early return of the County show proper.
