From 1811 until 1948 the Counties of England Wales and Scotland provided their own system of custody and care and treatment for the Mentally Ill People When it was opened in 1851 Colney Hatch was the largest asylum in Europe. The building had 6 miles of corridor and the front was nearly 1, 884 ft. long and occupied 14 acres. This building is now called Princess Park Manor and is converted into Luxury apartments and a health club.
