The Joshua is a monocotyledonous tree 10 30 feet tall found in California Arizona Utah and Nevada Confined mostly to the Mojave desert between 400 and 6000 feet the tree is very slow growing Mature trees have a columnar trunk with many thick branches Young trees have no branches until they produce their first flowers The leaves are sharp pointed 8 14 inches long and colored blue green with yellow edges note that the old dead leaves form a mat on the trunk and branches Joshua flowers are greenish white fleshy waxen and ill smelling sized about two inches long in clusters about a foot in length Typical habitat is dry juniper pinyon woodland to about 7000ft and is the largest member of the lily family in North America
