Forming The Second Phase Of Orms' Masterplan For The School, These Two New Buildings Are For The Modern Languages Department And Design, Technology And Arts Department. 2, 200Sq. M Of New Teaching Space Will Allow The Whole School To Be Reorganised Into Separate Departments. The Modern Design Complements The Scale, Materials And Rhythm Of The Listed 1907 School Buildings, And Responds To The Terraced Site. Set On A Tightly Contained And Sloping Site To The North Of The School Campus, Orms'S Scheme Comprises Two Blocks Linked By A Common Terrace At First Floor, And A Bridge At Second Floor. These Replace An Adhoc Collection Of Converted Buildings And Complement The Adjacent 1906 Buildings, Designed By Arnold Mitchell, Without Resorting To Historical Pastiche. The Considered Contextual Design Strongly References The Neighbouring Listed Buildings Through The Scale And Use Of Clay Brick, But In A Form Which Is Unambiguously Contemporary.
