Dans la première réunion qui a eu lieu aujourd'hui les discussions ont porté sur la proposition d'application à Gibraltar la confédération européenne. Dans ce qui est une étape importante pour les deux organismes chargés de l'espagnol et de Gibraltar, la réunion a permis d'ouvrir des discussions entre les deux parties

Gibraltar – 9th October 2014 – Anna Nellberg, President of the European Confederation of Police, Eurocop today met at the Atlas Conference room on the Sunborn Hotel in Gibraltar with representatives from federations representing officers from The Royal Gibraltar Police, Gibraltar Defence Police, Spanish Guardia Civil and Spanish Police. In the first meeting held today discussions centred on Gibraltar’s proposed application into the European Confederation. In what is a major milestone for both Spanish and Gibraltar enforcement agencies, the meeting allowed discussions to open between both sides in relation to key operating issues to create a forum for better understanding between both sides. During press conference representatives of each federation highlighted that the key issues discussed, and agreed upon were formulas for better understanding, mutual respect and co-operation at an enforcement level which would allow officers to operate in a safe environment in what they described as a situation of “very high tensions.” Further discussions are expected with all sides agreeing that dialogue will be opened between the corresponding federations to provide a better environment for their officers and citizens. The discussions took place at a time when political tensions over issues relating to Gibraltar’s sovereignty are at their highest in recent years, with continued confrontations, especially in the maritime sector, seen on a daily basis as political tensions influence operational decisions. The European Confederation of Police, EuroCOP, serves as the voice of European police officers in Europe. It represents over half a million officers in 27 European countries dealing with issues ranging from cross-border police cooperation to a safer working environment for police officers on the street.
