Italy Piedmont Province of Novara Arona Villa Ponti Arona, as in all the main towns of Lake Maggiore, there are prestigious villas with beautiful gardens, a time during the summer holiday residences. The most famous is surely Villa Ponti, the magnificent mansion and 700 in the Baroque style, situated in Via San Carlo Borromeo palace not far from the fifteenth century. It was built on the ramparts of the fortress around 1760 by Bartolomeo Pertossi, wealthy merchant and supporter of Napoleon I, which was host to the return from the campaign of Egypt. His name, however, you must illustrious engineer Gian Giacomo Bridges, assistant to Thomas Edison, the project sponsor and founder of the SIP STIPEL, born in this house December 28, 1878. Despite the many changes that occur in the nineteenth century, Villa Ponti still retains much of its original core. The Baroque facade is characterized by the rusticated ground floor and looks like a monumental entrance with wrought iron balconies and windows adorned with fine gratings. Inside, rooms are very elegant and a nice local bar located on the adaptation of a porch. The building is surrounded by a large park (over 5, 000 sq. m.) With beech trees, silver cedars, magnolias, azaleas and rhododendrons, in the midst of which stands a beautiful fountain in the Baroque style. Today, Villa Ponti hosts exhibitions of art works by the greatest masters of the world (Picasso and Kandinsky, to name just two), as well as numerous other prestigious events such as conferences, receptions and concerts of classical music.
