The family of George Atkinson handed in a letter to 10 Downing Street, pleading for pressure to be put on the Dubai government, which has indicated it is not yet prepared to release the Hampshire businessman. Mr Atkinson, who organised the Professional Golfers' Association European Tour Tournament known as the Desert Classic, was fined heavily and sentenced to six years imprisonment in December 1998 on charges of defrauding the Dubai government.
