Vintage aquatint print depicting the death of Napoleon Bonaparte on May 5 1821. Entitled "Mort de Napoleon", it shows Bonaparte on his deathbed on the island of Saint Helena where he spent the last years of his life in confinement. An autopsy concluded he died from stomach cancer although some believe he may have been poisoned with arsenic. Bonaparte was Emperor of the French as Napoleon I and a key military and political leader whose actions shaped European politics in the early 19th century. Print circa 1860 by Jean-Pierre Marie Jazet (1788 - 1871), based on a painting by Baron Charles Auguste Guillaume Steuben (1788 - 1856), also known as Charles de Steuben.
