Tuborg's The Thirsty Man, contemporary mural on the gable of a house in the city Hillerød, Denmark, from the poster painted by Erik Henningsen and used for Tuborg beer advertising since 1900. In 1900 the Danish brewery Tuborg sponsored a poster contest to celebrate their 25th anniversary. The winning entries were never used, but one submission became an iconic image that even today is associated with Tuborg beer, not only in Denmark, but throughout Europe. The Danish artist Erik Henningsen (1855-1930) painted the poster, which today is known as The Thirsty Man and it has been used in Tuborg's advertising since November 1900. The original name was The Sweaty Man, but that didn't work as well for advertising. The poster has also been used as a bottle label when Tuborg launched The Big Tuborg in half-litre bottles in 1977. Tuborg is now owned by Carlsberg.
