The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William on their first visit to Cambridge on Wednesday 28th November 2012. Thousands welcomed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the famous university city today (Wed) as they made their first visit to the home of their dukedom.Crowds packed into the Market Square to see Royal couple William and Catherine as they waved from the balcony of the Guildhall in the city centre. Many had taken the day off work to see the pair and they went wild, waving Union Jacks and cheering as Prince William and Kate appeared looking slightly wind-swept.Kate was smartly dressed in a three-quarter length cream coat and black tights and shoes as she smiled at the spectators, including many schoolchildren and others who had been waiting since 5.30am.Prince William wore a suit and purple tie as he stayed close to Kate. The couple had earlier arrived in Cambridge by train and sheltered under a brown umbrella to keep off the drizzle. After greeting the crows they walked to the nearby university Senate House, which is used for degree ceremonies, where they attended a reception for 400 people.Later today they will officially open a new 24-hour support centre for rough sleepers run by charity Jimmy's in the city. The pair will also enjoy a drama, music and dance presentation at The Manor School in Cambridge before travelling to nearby Peterborough to officially open the new Peterborough City Hospital.
